Escape From Jesus Island Halloween Art Contest!

In honor of our very favorite holiday, we at Jesus Island are happy to announce our newest opportunity for you crazy freaks to get in on the fun: MORTIMER GLUM’S SHOW ME YOURS AND I’LL SHOW YOU MINE contest.

THE RULES: To enter…

1) Draw/sketch/scribble your favorite EFJI character.

2) Post the artwork to your Facebook wall.

3) Tag Escape From Jesus Island in the image.

4) E-mail your artwork as an attachment to JesusIslandComics@gmail.com.

The Jesus Island crew will judge the entries based on originality, technique, ridiculousness and overall heresy.

PRIZES: The winner will receive a free mutant makeover by illustrator Mortimer Glum for themselves or a loved one. Includes a signed print of your mutant self. The winning entry will also appear in print in Issue 1 of Escape From Jesus Island! If we receive 10 or more entries, we’ll add smaller second- and third-place prizes as well. So help us spread the word about the contest and we’ll have even more awesomeness up for grabs.

DEADLINE: The deadline for entries is TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29 at midnight. The winner will be announced on Halloween.

Escape From Jesus Island Kickstarter Week 1 Recap

Exactly one week ago, I was staring nervously at my computer screen. We were about to launch the Escape From Jesus Island Kickstarter campaign. Twenty years of story work, a year of production and several months of Kickstarter research and design all came down to this. If the campaign is successful, we can release our comics in full-color print, as it should be. If not, a devastating, public failure and humiliation.

The suspense didn’t last long. Within seconds of launch, Joseph Schmalke claimed one of the signed and numbered copies of Issue 1 with an alternate cover. Next was Big Gore, from the metal band Coffin Syrup, whose pledged earned him the coveted Death By Damien reward. One after another, the pledges rolled in.

15 new cast members have been added to our story this week. Two will be killed by Damien, two by Mother Superior and five fans have signed on to be killed by the horde. Two Kickstarter supporters will be turned into mutants who dish out a little carnage. Three fans will appear as heads on Pariah and another as The One Who Got Away, a ReGen Corp guard who plays a role in the End Times.

Backers have claimed Kickstarter-exclusive artwork, T-shirts and alternate versions of Issue 1. After one week, we have reached 90% of our main funding goal.

There are still lots of cool rewards up for grabs, including…

5 opportunities to die in print (comes with a signed copy of your death page).

2 opportunities to be killed by Goliath, the biggest mutant on the island.

1 opportunity to be torn limb from limb by Pariah and three remaining chances for YOU to be one of Pariah’s heads.

A $50 pledge gets you your copy, along with signed copies of Issues 2-3 and a signed 8″x10″ of the character of your choice.

All in all, it’s been a ridiculously successful first week and we’re looking to keep the momentum rolling. Please share the Escape From Jesus Island campaign with your friends and help us realize our extremely ambitious plans for this story. Welcome to Malsum Island Research Facility, home to ReGen Corporation’s Project Savior and the setting for Act One of the Escape From Jesus Island comic book series. This is Shawn, writer of the Jesus Island stories and your tour guide for the deeply strange adventure ahead.

“What is Escape From Jesus Island? Where’s my wallet? Why am I naked?”

All good questions, one of which I will answer now. Escape From Jesus Island is our upcoming horror comic book series about an attempt to clone Jesus that goes a bit off the rails. OK, a lot. Beautifully illustrated by Mortimer Glum, our twisted retelling of the biblical prophecies in the Book of Revelation kicks off with our first monthly issue in October.

JesusIsland.com is the home for all things Jesus Island. Here you can check out character profiles, artwork galleries, sample pages, info about the main Factions, a preview of our upcoming Kickstarter campaign (launching July 28!), a 20-page promotional brochure, get your Jesus Island merchandise, plus learn about the Jesus Island team. In the coming months, we’ll also give you a look behind the scenes with more concept art and videos showing Mortimer’s process.

We’ve had a strong presence on Facebook for a while (follow us here). Many of our earliest Facebook backers will appear in the comics as thanks for their support and more than 50 fans have already been transformed into mutants by Mortimer Glum (or mutantized, the most excellent term coined in this Dread Central article).

When we launch our Kickstarter Campaign on July 28, there will be 34 more chances for fans to appear in our comics. None are boring cameos or random faces in a crowd. If you earn an appearance in our comics, you will die a horrible death and we’ll send you a signed print of your death page. You can check out a preview of our Kickstarter rewards here.

We have big plans for the Jesus Island story. In addition to the 40-issue main story arc, we’re planning special one-off issues, character figurines, a board game, masks, Jesus Island tarot deck, trading cards and a whole lot more.

I’ve been working on this story for 20 years… nearly all of my adult life. Then one day, I had the good fortune of crossing paths with the mad genius Mortimer Glum. It’s been full speed ahead ever since. Every day, I see more of this epic story unfolding on the page. I can’t wait to share it with you.
