After years of failed experiments that create scores of hideously deformed freaks, ReGen Corp CEO Anna Thorne eventually succeeds in her quest to clone the Savior on a remote island testing facility. A pair of twins are born, Jesus and his monstrous brother Yeshua (aka Damien). Both have the full powers of Christ, but Damien is hell-bent on bringing about the Apocalypse and cleansing Earth of the plague that is humanity.
When the Vatican learns of Christ’s return and sends in an extraction team, all Hell breaks loose in this comic book series from illustrator Mortimer Glum and writer Shawn French.
Christ Has Returned. A Lot.
Can’t take much more. So freakin’ excited to read these
disgracefull. get ready to be decieved world cos satan really is going to present you with the roman catholic pagan jesus saviour and turn you agains your true creater Yahshua
Thanks for the heads-up, James. Quick question: How does one get ready to be deceived? I’m happy to do it, but it seems to me the very act of preparing for this deception might interfere with it, like telling someone about to walk into a surprise party to prepare to be surprised. I’d hate for all of Satan’s hard work to go to waste due to you posting a spoiler about his big plans on a message board. Please advise.
Yours in Christ,
Shawn
That would be so sad 😦 But… couldnt we just fake surprise when he gets here? I mean, you did bring up a good point about all the trouble the poor fellow went through to bring about our destruction… until someone spilled the beans. I think I will start working on my surprise face right away because I would hate to disappoint!
Sigh…
The artwork is wickedly wonderful. I cannot help but admit the imagination in the story your crew has assembled is excellent. I get that this is fantasy and “outside the offering basket” thinking. Actually, I admire the work and polish of the artwork. However, anyone with a passing knowledge of the Biblical Jesus cringes at the theological inconsistencies and basic logical fallacies that this story contains when it comes to person of Jesus of Nazareth and how He is depicted. For example, Jesus, God the Son omnipotent, omniscient creator of the universe…is cloned and subsequently trapped in some sort of island? Yeshua (the Jewish side of the messiah? is Demonic…ouch) Both have the same powers…so now there is a “Quadrinity”?
It seems easy to mischaracterize Christianity (heck, Christians themselves are guilty of doing it out of sheer ignorance and stupidity). Sadly, Christians have made themselves easy targets. One wonders, however how as story about Muhammad being cloned into evil twins, one a “Allahist”, the other a “Jihadist” would go over…
Albeit its a fun ride, but, I think it would have been a stronger piece if more careful attention and respect would have been paid to the primary sources. Even if you don’t believe the Bible to be God’s inspired word, or the validity of Jesus as God the Son, dealing honestly with the characters make for more pathos and depth.
Yours in Christ…@nge!
Thanks for checking out our project and sharing your thoughts, Angel.
The inherent flaw with opinions about a story arc that hasn’t been published yet (we’re 2 issues into a 40-issue run) is that you can only base them on your assumptions of what you think that story will be. Much like trying to review a film trilogy after watching the first half of the first trailer.
The one assumption I do want to address is that the Antichrist is the Jewish side of the messiah. That’s not even vaguely true. They’re both the Jewish side of the messiah. He was Jewish. Yeshua’s name is Yeshua because that was his name. He isn’t about to respond to some bastardized version of his identity, like his brother does. Yeshua is the side of the messiah who resented being crucified for suggesting people should be nice to one another. He is the side of Christ who watched, powerless to act without a physical form, as organizations founded in his name raped children within their sacred walls. He is the side of Christ who decided that maybe humans weren’t the best idea after all. I believe that the Antichrist as described in Revelation could very well be a clone of Christ. EFJI is that story.
Again, thanks for the feedback. I’ll be interested in hearing what you think of the story once we’ve actually told it.
Very likely that this was both the Sassiest and most vividly beautiful responce i have read in a long time
Hey guys follow my blog as I follow your updates we both use WordPress
Done. Thanks!
Thanks for the reply. Yep, you have a valid point. I was responding to the synopsis and thus made my comments based on that. You are correct that the story should be fully read to give an accurate critique, positive or negative. I apologize if I jumped the gun. To the Yeshua/Jewish aspect, I agree, Jesus is and Yeshua are synonymous. I guess, I can see the “anti defamation league” getting irate because the Jewish version of the name is used in reference to the evil incarnation of the alleged Jesus.
On the other hand, the idea that Jesus had two conflicting sides may be a mis-understanding. or a re-interpretation of the hypostatic union of the two natures of Christ…am I on the right track, here? It assumes that Christ’s nature was dualistic. Biblically, it was not a “good vs evil” nature that made up the God-man, but a human nature taken on by God, unified, yet identifiable. In all honesty, the speculation you all have taken is interesting. But my Theological OCD takes over and has to examine the foundations.
But then again…(I’m processing this on the fly so pardon some inconsistencies) These are genetic clones based on DNA from…the Shroud of Turin? That produce twin Jesus’…but not the real one..yes?
And so BOTH would be corrupted versions of the real thing…wow that would be even more fascinating! Eventually they could conjoin to be a perversion of the very hypostatic union that the real Christ possesses…and thus be an even more evil anti-christ…I’d better stop before I hurt myself…:)
As a Christian, my ears perk up when I hear of an art form that uses my savior’s name and rep as a basis. In all honesty, I do become exponentially more critical (in the proper sense of the word I hope). Though I do try to be as balanced as possible, being an artist myself. I look forward to reading the book and seeing how it comes together. If nothing else, it makes for great conversation. And who knows, perhaps the real Jesus/Ieseous/Y’shua “HeyZews” may find Himself glorified.
In Christ,
@nge!

@godzmassacre – Dude…that is sick and awesome! I love it!!!!
Incredible! This blog looks exactly like my old one! It’s on a entirely different subject but it has pretty much the same layout and design.
Wonderful choice of colors!
I’m not much for comics, but I am excited to read this. A friend shared your Facebook post, so I looked @ your page. Now I wish I’d known sooner so I could have backed it on Kickstarter & would be getting it quicker! Can’t wait to read it!
Glad to have you along for the ride, Jami! Episode 1 will be available by Christmas for an exclusive 30-day run at the Phantom Stores (find one near you here: http://phantomvariant.com/blog/?page_id=7). Then in late January, it’ll be on sale at our site and all over the damn place.
Congrats on selling out your first batch
Desperate for the phantom variant of issue #1, I found a seller on Amazon! Its been shipped, waiting anxiously! But then I have to see if my local store is gonna carry the other issues… ^_^
This book is grotesque! Anxiously waiting episode 2! 😀 Hails from Brazil!!!
BTW read #s 1 and 2 and loved them. Great concept and every vignette is a work of art.
HI
Just bought episodes 1 & 2 at Leamington Comic Con (UK) today because the story sounded Awesome and the artwork looked Amazing. I was not disapointed. Please, please, please release episode 3 soon. I need to know what’s gonna happen next. This is the best story I have read in ages. Keep up the top work.
Thanks so much, Simon. It’s great to hear you’re enjoying our twisted tale. Mortimer Glum is hard at work on the pages for Episode 3 and it is going to be many shades of awesome. If you’re on Facebook, we have a great community of fans there. We put out regular updates and always have contests running. http://www.facebook.com/JesusIsland
We also have a video game in development that is a prequel to the comics. You’ll play as the teenage Antichrist and three custom made mutant freaks. It’ll be a POV dungeon crawler for mobile devices. It’ll give us a chance to tell some of the backstory and learn how Yeshua got to where he is when we meet him in Episode 1. Good stuff is brewing on Jesus Island. Welcome to the horde!
Nice to meet u guys today at the expo show. Your comic would make a kick ass video game. So much talent.
Thanks so much, Heath! We had a blast meeting everyone at the Expo. We’ll have regular updates on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/jesusisland) about the video game, along with some EFJI think tanks, where I toss out a game design question and have fans contribute ideas. Our first one was for Player Character Mutation Perks and was very helpful. I’m using several of the fan suggestions in the game.
Where can I get act 1 episode 3??!!!
I need it in my life!!!!
Thanks, Zack! We don’t have a release date yet, but Episode 3 (“Second Son”) is coming together beautifully. Morty’s artwork is gorgeous and things get a whole lot of crazy real fast now that we’re digging into the meat of the story. We put out daily updates on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/jesusisland).
Absoloutly love it fabulous artwork and writing. Wicked imagination. Ignore all the jelous people they are not worth bothering with. Keep up the amazing work. Xxx
Thanks! Wait until you see Episode 3. Mortimer’s pages are STUNNING.
Such a tease :p
When is efji #3 coming out~ Aidan
Heya, Aidan!
We’re in the home stretch on #3 and should have it out by the end of April.
-Shawn
Brought 1st and 2nd ones at a comic-con in UK last year. Loved them!!! Actually got to re-buy them as a friend “borrowed” mine and i haven’t seen him since………Waiting on 3rd with baited breath. Great work on 1st two issues, keep up good work.
The slew of setbacks and delays have finally been conquered! EFJI #3 was officially released a couple days ago (July 15th) Martin. Geeky Kids Comics is our UK distributor; you can catch them at one of the many UK Con’s they participate in, or order directly from their site.
(If you like #1-2, you are going to lose your shit over issue #3…I promise!)
Regards,
Editor Shawn
Horrific new year’s gentlemen, Cheers from Jaybeals, keep up the fine work. P.s. I played in a band called meatwagon hah
Hello to anyone still out there… i realize that its been awhile since 2015 but maybe just maybe someone is out there hahaha.
I have been a avid SPAWN collector and fan since the beginning and sadly to say i had NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER branched into any other comic series outside of the Vietnamese zombie series 68′. Quite recently i have delved head first into online comic reading. I know i know a mortal sin to anyone that owns a comic shop, im sorry to those owners out there, BUT this age of information has lead me to read so so so SO freaking mamy comics. Among them was this epic title “escape from jesus island” i absolutely positively love this series. Thrilling and chilling, bloody and gritty, well thought of story in my opinion and the art did it for me too. Heres where my head scratching begins….. i have started so many series and they just cease to continue…. so im curious was this another brilliant story that fell victim to lack of funding and interest from the general public? Most of the sites i have seen it on have upto issue #4 and cant find any information about what has happened to this title.
Heya, AC.
Yep, that’s exactly what happened. Our books were pirated like crazy, but we were unable to garner enough interest from paying fans to stay afloat and the Kickstarter campaign that would have allowed us to finish the series came up short, so that was pretty much that. Refunds were sent to all subscribers, the project was shuttered, and the team have gone our separate ways.
I wrote EFJI. If you enjoyed that story, I’ve also written many, many novels worth of quests in the video-game Epic Tavern, and my new comic series Tales from the Fantastical Crimes Unit (Scout Comics) is available everywhere.
Thanks for following our series. I wish I had better news for you on that front.
