Happy New Year from your twisted friends at Escape From Jesus Island!
Shawn French here, the guy who writes this freakshow on wheels. We have a lot in store for you folks in 2015. We’ve replaced Mortimer Glum’s dying computer and drawing tablet and he’s back up and running… er, rolling. He’s now working with a tablet that is double the size of his old one and the results are amazing. Check out this panel!
The artwork for Episode 3 is rolling in steadily. This morning, I woke up to a new page, plus a rough cut of a double splash page. Things get a whole lot of crazy in our next installment.
The lion’s share of my time lately has been spent co-designing the EFJI mobile game alongside veteran designer Eric Pavone. Eric is a fucking rockstar and we’re thrilled to be working with him. If you’ve ever held a game controller, you’ve probably played one of his games.
The EFJI mobile game will be an old-school dungeon crawler that serves as a prequel to our comics. You’ll control a teenage Antichrist and three freaks you design in our Mutant Creation Lab on a quest to free the captive mutant test subjects on Malsum Island.
Here are hyperlinks to stories about the EFJI game from some of our favorite horror and comic book sites. Dread Central, Comic Bastards, The Blood Shed
We’re also working on our Mutant Babies web comic, illustrated by EFJI letterer Peeter Parkker. These will be a series of short stories featuring the wacky, homicidal adventures of the baby Antichrist and his mutant pals. Heavily inspired by Muppet Babies, Animaniacs and Pinky & The Brain, this one’s going to be a whole lot of fun. Peeter’s style of art is so perfect for this type of project. I can’t wait to get this one up and running. To the right are concept images for the babies Christ and Antichrist. We’ll be rolling out concept images for the rest of his mutant pals very soon.
Nicolas Genovese Sculpture is also creating a full line of 12(!) Escape From Jesus Island gaming miniatures. We are a whole lot of psyched about getting these bad boys manufactured and ready to roll in the new year. You can see the first four sculpts (Inquisition, Yeshua, Goliath/Palsy and Meatwagon) below.
Our editor, Shawn Greenleaf, is also working on the base design for an EFJI tabletop game, which will be all kinds of epic. Much more to come about that as he gets further into development.
In short, 2015 is shaping up to be a monster year for our demented little comic and we’re psyched to have you with us for this adventure. Strap in, kiddies!
And a very happy new year from Mat Brandford and Head Hunter UK.
